City of Beckley receives StormReady designation

Another presentation was made at the Septemebt 11, 2013 meeting of the Southern WV Preparedness Partnership meeting, this one to the City of Beckley. The National Weather Service recognized the City of Beckley as a “StormReady” community. This is a national program that started in 1999 in Tulsa, OK and helps community leaders and emergency managers strengthen their local safety programs. Director of Emergency Services Kevin Taylor began this process last year, one that verifies that the city meets certain planning and response capabilities, as well as multiple ways in which to receive, monitor, and disseminate weather-related information. Beckley joins only six counties and one other community in WV to receive this designation.

Presenting this designation to Director Taylor is Faith Borden and Andy Roche from the National Weather Service, as well as Robbie Bailey, the regional liaison for the WV Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
